Common reasons people book

UTI and cystitis

A urinary tract infection can wreck a day. Burning, frequency, going little and often, or a sudden fever with loin pain should not wait for a routine NHS slot. A GMC-registered GP in Lurgan can assess you the same day or next day, decide if antibiotics are justified, and tell you honestly when this is not a simple UTI.

Cough and chest infection

A cough that has gone past a cold, green sputum, a wheeze, or a temperature that will not settle is a common reason people book a private GP. You get time, a chest examination, and a decision about inhalers, antibiotics, steroids, or tests.

Sore throat and tonsillitis

A sore throat that stops you swallowing, talking or sleeping is miserable. Tonsillitis, glandular fever lookalikes, and simple viral throats all walk through the same door. The job is to examine you, rule out the dangerous causes, and treat what we find.

Earache and ear infections

Ear pain in a child at 7pm, or a blocked ear that will not clear after a cold, is a classic private GP booking. We look in the ear, decide if this is infection, wax, or something else, and treat it accordingly.

Sinusitis and blocked nose

Facial pressure, a blocked nose and thick discharge after a cold is usually viral. Sometimes it is not. A private GP can examine you, sort hay fever from infection, and decide if a steroid spray, a delayed antibiotic prescription, or further ENT input is the honest next step.

Skin rashes and infections

A new rash, an eczema flare, or a spreading red area on the leg is easier to sort when someone actually looks at it. We see skin in clinic, take photos into the notes if useful, and refer to dermatology at Friends Medical Service when the next step is a specialist, not a second guess.

Back pain

Back pain is usually mechanical and miserable, not dangerous. The useful job is to pick out the rare red flags, get you moving, write a fit note if work is the problem, and refer for imaging or physio when that is actually indicated.

Headache and migraine

Headaches are common. Migraine is often under-treated. A private GP slot is long enough to take the history properly, check for the rare dangerous causes, and review the tablets you already buy over the counter.

Anxiety, stress and low mood

Anxiety, stress and low mood are among the commonest reasons people pay for a longer GP appointment. You get a quiet room, more than ten minutes, and a doctor who can issue a fit note, review medication, or write to your NHS GP. This is not a crisis service and it is not a replacement for talking therapies.

Menopause and perimenopause

Hot flushes, wrecked sleep, a short fuse, and a period pattern that has gone off-script are enough reason to book a longer GP slot. You do not need to “wait until it is unbearable”. We can talk about HRT, non-hormonal options, and what needs a gynaecology opinion rather than a GP prescription.

Children's infections

A child who is hot, not drinking, or up all night with an ear is why parents look for a private GP. We see children in Lurgan, examine them, and give you a plan you can follow at 2am. We are not a paediatric emergency department.

Hay fever and allergies

Hay fever can look like a cold that lasts all summer. Hives, swollen eyelids and a blocked nose that wrecks sleep are worth a proper plan: the right antihistamine, a steroid spray used properly, and a look at whether this is allergy or something else.

What we do not rebuild here

Blood testing, ECG, travel clinic and sexual health already rank onFriends Medical Service. We send you there rather than competing with ourselves.
