When to book

What happens in the appointment
- We look at the child, not just the story: colour, breathing, hydration, ears, throat, chest, tummy, skin.
- We tell you what we think it is, what would change our mind, and when to use 999 or 111.
- Treatment might be nothing but fluids and observation, or a prescription if justified.
Clinic, online, or at home
A well child with a mild cold can sometimes start online. Fever in a young baby, breathing difficulty, or a child who is not drinking needs to be seen. Video is a poor substitute for looking at a toddler’s ears.
After you leave
Use the safety-net card we give you. If they worsen, do not wait for a review appointment. Children’s emergency care is NHS. We can still help with the follow-up once they are stable.

What age do you see?
We see children in clinic when it is appropriate and a parent or guardian is present. Very young or very unwell children may be better in NHS paediatric pathways. We will say if this slot is the wrong place.

Earache and ear infections
Ear pain in a child at 7pm, or a blocked ear that will not clear after a cold, is a classic private GP booking. We look in the ear, decide if this is infection, wax, or something else, and treat it accordingly.
